Ancient Future Nominated for the North Bay Bohemian 2012 NorBay World Music Award

Please Vote for Ancient Future for Best World Music on Bohemian.com

Ancient Future is a finalist in the NORTH BAY BOHEMIAN 2012 North Bay Music Awards in the World/Reggae category. Reader's votes determine who wins, so please vote for Ancient Future in the World Music category at:

http://posting.bohemian.com/northbay/Survey?survey=2295166

Voting closes July 11 at 5 PM. Thankfully, the rules allow for only one vote per reader, so it's easy to support Ancient Future!

The BOHEMIAN 2012 North Bay Music Award is Ancient Future's third world music award nomination of the year. On February 12, 2012, 'World Without Walls' by Ancient Future with special guest Zakir Hussain was nominated by Zone Music Reporter broadcasters worldwide for Best World Album of 2011, and then on February 21, 2012, About.com readers nominated Ancient Future for the About.com World Music Trailblazer Award.

It is a great honor to be nominated for these awards all in one year. Ancient Future is now receiving some recognition for its over three decades of contributions to the world music movement. But these poll nominations do point out that Ancient Future needs to increase its social networking outreach to further the world fusion music movement. So for a first step in that process, please ask friends in your social networks to vote, and to "like" the Ancient Future page on Facebook:

Ancient-Future.Com Records Releases Mini EP by Matthew Montfort to Benefit RSI Injury Recovery

Sympathetic Serenade for Scalloped Fretboard Guitar by Matthew Montfort (Ancient-Future.Com Records EP AF-2012)

Sympathetic Serenade Cover Art

Sympathetic Serenade for Scalloped Fretboard Guitar by Matthew Montfort. Ancient-Future.Com EP AF-201. Signed Mini EP CD-R-$12.98: Buy CD-R. iTunes. >audio (Excerpt)

When I was working on my debut solo recording for scalloped fretboard guitar (a special guitar modified to enable ornaments characteristic of the sitar), I recorded a number of spontaneously improvised serenades. Were it not for some serendipitous sequencing coupled with the allure of alliteration, it's likely that this recording would have been released as the eighth improvisation on what became Seven Serenades for Scalloped Fretboard Guitar. Instead, this evocative Spanish serenade/raga hybrid receives a mini-EP treatment on my new Sympathetic Serenade for Scalloped Fretboard Guitar EP. The nearly 11 minute long track, entitled 'Sympathetic Serenade,' was just released as a download complete with nine pages of digital liner notes at digital retailers such as iTunes, and as a signed CD-R exclusively at Ancient-Future.Com in order to raise funds for my recovery from wrist and shoulder injuries.

On the subject of my RSI recovery, here is the report. My wrist and shoulder are slowly getting better, and I can now teach and perform a few cameos in concerts, such as an appearance with Mariah Parker's Indo Latin Jazz Band at the Sanskriti Music and Dance Festival on July 29 at 3pm at the Amador Theater in Pleasanton, California, and performing as a guest artist on a Sohini Sangeet concert with Pt. Binay Pathak and Joe Fajen at the North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center near Nevada City, California, on August 25. I am in the stage of recovery where I need to play guitar daily to rebuild my muscle strength, but for short periods so as not to reinjure myself. So I have only booked one Ancient Future concert this year, which is a 'World Without Walls' reunion band show at the famous Fridays at the Frick series in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on September 7.

For those who would like to help cover some of the expenses until I can return to a full concert schedule, wrist injury recovery donations are also accepted online at ancient-future.com where supporters can help by purchasing CDs and books, signing up for music lessons in person or via Skype, or becoming a subscriber to the Archive of Future Ancient Recordings, which is a crowd funded project to produce the next Ancient Future release. There are three studio recordings for which my guitar parts were already complete before my injury, and if funds come through to add a few overdubs, and then to mix and master the recordings, this would be a great project for me while I'm rehabilitating myself. Thanks again to all those who have helped so much to support my recovery so far!

Yours musically,

Matthew Montfort
